I recently got a controller from 8BitDo that has an extra pair of triggers and two extra face buttons for screenshots or whatever you want really. Issue is, not only do do my emulators not recognize these buttons, but is seems Linux Mint doesn’t know they exist at all. Even bringing up a program to map buttons to keys doesn’t show any input when those buttons are pressed. Does anyone know how to make these buttons recognizable? They’d be really helpful for toggling fast forward on games with long loading screens for instance or just resetting the system on a whim.
I’ve used these for years to fuck around/experiment with games I’ve played to excess (single player games with no ranking/etc/etc where my screwing around could give me any kind of advantage, to be clear), and had no problem getting it running/doing what I want..
Hi, earlier I was able to use the Dualshock controller on Ubuntu fully functionally, but since last upgrade right joystick moves ‘an invisible cursor’ only inside Steam.

Ok. So I have a decent setup and running Mint because I do not want the hassle of Arch. I know Epic has said several times they won’t support us. Whatever, it’s lame. But my son has Windows 10 and plays Fortnite and wants to come to Linux. I have no problem with my steam games.

Between the DXVK and VKD3D(-Proton) projects there is good support for Direct3D 8 through Direct3D 12 implementations atop the Vulkan API for Linux gaming usage. For those preferring more retro classic gaming, D7VK came about more recently for Direct3D 7 as a DXVK fork. Out today is D7VK 1.1 and besides delivering fixes for its D3D7 implementation has also now tacked on an experimental D3D6 front-end.
Hello everyone, I have an issue with my vulkan install. Here is my general problem : I use my linux computer to play video games and I encounter instabilities with Blizzard’s Battle net. It seems to me that a good idea would be to identify the versions of the working installation (Proton, DXVK, Vulkan) and save them for backup or to prevent upgrades that could break it.
Hi, ive spent the last day or 2 trying to get this game to work, which for most people runs out of the box. But in my case seems to be a sisyphean task. The problem im experiencing is massive frame times whilst the game is running.
Ive tried most fixes ive seen online such as connecting a controller through wire, disabling nvidia reflex , disabling igpu, and finally forcing tsc as clocksource. AND YET the issue still persists.
Its clearly not a nvidia driver issue since whilst in this frame lagged state it uses only 5% of dgpu resources. And i also very distinctly remember running this game on the same system a year ago, so its not impossible.
I am very close to installing a ext4 driver on windows just so i can play this dammed thing but eww windows. Can someone of you very handsome people lend a hand?

A little holiday update for Proton Experimental from Valve to improve Windows games on Linux, Steam Deck / SteamOS systems. This update was released on December 23rd, with another from earlier in December previously covered on GamingOnLinux with even more improvements. There’s also Proton 10.0-4 with a release candidate for testing.
i want to update the firmware on my dualsense controller and installed the necessary app on a vm. it opens but when i plug in the controller the app seems to crash. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling and rebooting but it keeps crashing. does anyone have any potential fixes?

All of the major review websites for gaming hardware conspicuously did not include the smaller handheld OEMs in their head-to-head rankings/comparisons. Unfortunate it is only these smaller OEMs that support external GPUs.
I spent about 2 days and all night with Google AI trying to get this highly recommended NVIDIA RTX 5050 card installed so I could use it with Blender and it finally gave up on me.

One of the lesser known Fedora spins under the “Fedora Labs” initiative is the Fedora Games Lab that showcases some open-source games and can serve as an easy demonstrator for Linux gaming. Looking forward to 2026 with Fedora 44, there is a proposal to revitalize Fedora Games Lab to become a better showcase for the modern potential of Linux gaming.
So, basically, I kinda don’t like very much to have an immutable distro, there are things I don’t really like about steam OS but the immutability makes it so if can’t really change it, for starters, I kinda don’t like at all dolphin, and would prefer to use nemo, but is my understanding that next time valve pushes an update, all it would revert.

I’m on Linux Mint 22.2, trying to update Project Zomboid to a beta version, and when Steam gets to the ‘validating’ part of the update it hangs. The content_log.txt file shows the following:
If anyone else finds Steam’s desktop chat client a bit unreliable on Linux—sluggish UI, finicky context menus, emoji pickers that vanish when you try to click them—there’s a solid alternative worth knowing about.
FEX 2512 is out today as the newest monthly update for this software that enables running x86/x86_64 Linux binaries on ARM64 Linux, including the likes of Wine and Valve’s Steam Play (Proton) for being able to run Windows games on 64-bit ARM Linux devices.
