Why is a 29 year old man “playing” with an 8 year old? The article is written like this is normal. WTAF, Utah?
The article doesn’t outline their relationship but does mention he’s hurt the boy before. Seems unlikely a personal acquaintance would give him continued access after the first time, so maybe a girlfriend’s son?
Wouldn’t surprise me if it was just some citizens kid he’d occasionally harass and their parent didn’t feel comfortable speaking up due to the power dynamics.
Deeply conservative areas are often up to some depraved shit behind closed doors, because the culture of the place means that you’re not supposed to say anything about them and so they fester and get weirder.
Deeply liberal areas are also often up to some depraved shit, it’s not like it’s a panacea, but there is at least some kind of societal check in place. In these little backwaters there is generally none. See also Ruby Franke.
