Here's a few of my favorites:

-Hyper light drifter

-Death's door

-Steelrising

hyper light drifter's art style rocks, gonna see if i can pick it up sometime

For sure! Whatever they are charging, it's worth it. You could probably get it on sale soon if you wanted to wait a little bit though. The steam autumn sale is quickly approaching 😁

As for HLD, it is one of my all time favorites. The gameplay/movement mechanics, exploration, mystery and intrigue of the story, futuristic aesthetic, etc. It can even be played co-op as well.

DS3 is still hard to beat personally. Tried Life of P and just can't get into it, tried Remnant(ds with gun) but my interest kinda drop off in the late game. I feels like ds3 sit nicely in the zone of "hard but actually kinda fair", while most soulslike feels like the dev just hate their customer.

The Surge and The Surge 2

TBH I’m still on Dark Souls 2

I’ve not been one to fully get into souls games as I feel like I don’t have enough free time and too many games I want to play to keep up with the many runbacks and do-overs the genre is usually known for.

Because of this, for me, my favourites have been games that have been inspired by the genre rather than applying it wholesale. Like the Jedi games. I feel like they specifically leant further back towards the roots of souls games which is essentially just 3d metroidvanias with methodical/calculated combat.

However, of the true souls games I did enjoy my time with demon’s souls’ PS5 remake, which I still think is one of the most beautiful PS5 games. I took a lil too long of a break away from this one and couldn’t get back into the swing of it all but I still appreciate the 10 or so hours I put into it. Maybe in retirement I’ll return to it or it’s 5th remake when it pops up on the PS7 Pro or whatever form the PC landscape is at at the time.

I think I’ve decided the next one I try again when I find the time however it’s Bloodborne. I really enjoyed what little time I put into that but I didn’t have enough dedicated time for it then to really get into it. Think I only beat the first boss and that was it. But I really enjoyed it and it’s gameplay. I’m looking forward to returning, hopefully sooner than later. Maybe being able to emulate PS4 proper with save states will give me the push to it if that happens before I feel the urge to play it on the PS4/5 itself.

The one I couldn’t get into the most was Hollow Knight. I think it’s version of bonfires, the benches were just too few and far between for my way of playing games. I just felt like if I didn’t find a new bench in a given play session that was just time wasted and that happened a few too many times. I liked the gameplay but I just did not want to replay the same bit over and over again every time I decided to boot it up for an hour. Maybe another one for retirement I guess. Hopefully my thumbs will still be working enough to have the reflexes for it.
