I’ve seen a couple of other similar blocks posted here recently.
Seems like a really dumb idea for them, as it will just give more exposure to other platforms which they can’t gatekeep. But beneficial to everyone else on the internet I guess.
Very dumb considering a good chunk of their AI tools that “help” with coding is built on things that are in Github. So, having a lot of people, and up-and-coming coders, move to something else is bad for business. AI inbreeding is going to become an issue sooner.
What do you mean?
I mean it seems like a dumb idea for Microsoft to block these apps, as they will just move to other platforms, and those other platforms will start to become more popular, which is bad for Microsoft. But good for the rest of the Internet.
True. But they just don’t care. Usual monopolistic behavior.
Can someone ELI5 this for me?
GitHub is a software development platform, owned by Microsoft, to store code. Organic Maps has moved from GitHub to the alternative Forgejo.
