      Because they were a money pit, unrealistic thing the first time.

      They really weren’t good cars. If it wasn’t for Back to the Future, no one would know about them today.

      I’ve been a car buff for a long time, as are some friends of mine. We knew of them, and they were just curiosities in the early 80’s.

      The Toyota Celica of the time was a better car.

      And I say this as someone who really appreciates what DeLorean was trying to do.

        But that’s the thing. There were other cars in bigger movies. It’s iconic because it looked good and it was futuristic looking. DMC was already a bankrupt company by the time it was filming, but Steven Spielberg specifically wanted that car because of the looks.
