Mother I feel like changed the way I view storytelling and RPG game design, like I use it as a mental benchmark for story-driven and/or turn based RPGs
Like I don’t think I would have appreciated OFF or Omori the same way without having played Mother games as a teen
Both details and fundamentals. And when the fundamentals get questioned things get dramatic. In like, an irritating way that reminds me of religious zealotry, uuuuuuugh
The "where is 95% of all the mass!?" seems a bit more dramatic in the grand scheme of things though, damn.
I witnessed grown adults outright bully teenage and young adult interns and grad students for presenting solid evidence that challenges paradigms (you know, like how we advance our understanding of science…?) but I can’t imagine it’s much better if everyone regardless of experience is just staring into a void of conflicting observations and nobody knows what the fuck any of it means
energy is what scientists never have enough of and its existence is enabled purely by being able to observe yourself not having enough of it

there is a lot of fucking mystery
that circular trackpad…!
I like to put it in my coffee and have DOUBLE BEAN WATER
I thought that was engineering
“this amount of bridge material should collapse under its own weight, but we made it into arches/triangles and now it doesn’t 👍”
a utopia for agoraphobic mice
being a USA “nationalist” is so dumb because our whole deal is being a nation made up of people from all over the world lol
to be fair it’s a pretty flag and represents the entire nation of people, not just the shitty government and fucked up history
i think of all the good people i love in my country when i see my flag. it makes me sad to think it’s also a symbol of so much bad shit :( but i also understand. :(

that sounds like it would require paying people enough to afford more than just rice and we can’t be having that now can we
[HP engineers nervously look up from trying to figure out how to build high performance liquid chromatography into a home printer]
this is like one of those IQ scale wojaks memes
everything electronic is just a tracking device <----------> electronic components are highly specialized <------------> everything electronic is just a tracking device…
i just cracked up out loud
I, a casual PC gamer, played it with a hardcore console gamer, and it was very fun overall
But BOY were there some shooter sections that absolutely dismembered me with my WASD-brain 💀
I second Portal. Technically it’s a “first person puzzle platformer” but it’s just so its own thing that it hardly feels like a video game.
My mom who hadn’t touched any video games since 80s arcade machines absolutely loved Portal
didn’t realize there was a system adaptation based on it. very cool!
