minus-squareJune@lemm.eelinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up7·1 year agoHaven’t we cured Alzheimer’s in mice like a dozen times or something?
minus-squareCow_says_moo@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up8·1 year agoScientists are evil and just enjoy giving mice Alzheimer’s.
minus-squaresurewhynotlem@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up7·1 year agoThe problem is that these mice don’t have Alzheimer’s. They’re bred to develop the symptoms: “plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, which comprise abnormally aggregated β-amyloid peptide (Aβ) and hyperphosphorylated tau protein” https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnmol.2022.912995/full But that may not be what causes Alzheimer’s. That might just be an effect, and treating the effect might not fix anything.
minus-squaremeseek #2982@lemmy.calinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·1 year agoWe’ve probably cured every disease in mice ten times over. But one thing about science and medicine: an animal =/= a human.
