'Sweary' bumper sticker lands Chester woman a trial at court

CHESTER Magistrates Court will hold a trial for a woman in the city who has denied having an offensive bumper sticker.

A Chester woman has denied having an offensive bumper sticker on her car and will face a trial in the spring.

Georgia Venables, 29 and of Prenton Place in Chester, pleaded not guilty to one charge of displaying threatening/abusive writing/sign/visible representation likely to cause harassment/alarm/distress at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

CPS prosecutor Valeriya Tonkinson told the court that on January 8 this year, the defendant was seen travelling on Deva Link with a bumper sticker that said ‘Don’t be a cunt’.

    The sign isn’t rude at all. It’s not calling you a cunt; it’s simply suggesting that you shouldn’t be one. A subtle, but vital distinction.

    This could be such an interesting trial.

    First the procecution will need to prove that the majority of readers will feel harrased or offended by the word cunt.

    So this shuuld lead to a discussion of meaning.

    At this ppinr we can hope the defence points out.

    Procecuting someone for expressinf a non violent request to be good to humanity. Definatly counts.

        Now the fun part.

        Where the prosecution aregues being a cunt is a legally protected privilege. So telling folks not to be is offensive.

        At some point ideally. But how can we protect politicians from this offence. Becomes a major news event.

            A very huge fan base of Jeremy Clarkson can argue that he should not be called a cunt. So yeah that would fail.

            Not even sure the most supportive brexiter would say the same of farage. You only have to look at his smile. And you feel the urge to throw milkshake at it. So yeah.
