The fact that the “Troubled Teen Industry” still exists at all is a fucking outrage! The entire concept of these torture farms is inherently abusive and traumatic towards the teens and the world has known for decades!

I’m guessing there’s some politicians with full campaign coffers 🤬

I completely agree that those places are despicable, but they’re privately owned and operated. The article refers to the CEO of the Hope Group, who owns and operates the academy. It’s the parents who enroll their kids who are supporting the justification for their existence. Courts mandate juvenile detention centers, rehabilitation clinics, or mental health facilities with state-issued certifications. These places aren’t those.

When these places have political influence, politicians and police will ignore complaints of abuse instead of investigating them.

That’s a fair point. I was just speaking to the fact that they’re privately funded by admissions, not taxes.

The parents should have CPS called on them for sending their kids to these torture facilities in the first place and the facilities should all be shut down.

A lot of times, the ‘troubled’ thing is either mental illness, which they think can be “treated” with “tough love,” or, worse being attracted to people of their own gender (or not being the gender their parents say they are), which they also think can be “treated” with “tough love.”

The whole thing is sick people upon sick people and abused kids.

State rules say programs are supposed to report these types of critical incidents within one business day. Although licensers found that Havenwood Academy did not report the alleged assault until a month later, public records indicate the state took no action against the program.
