I’ve never backed my data up to iCloud. It’s an irresistible trove of extremely private user data, and I always knew someone would come for it eventually.
If you REALLY want to deter the government, tell them to impliment back-doored encryption themselves for their own data. All the reasons they can’t (or won’t) do it are all the same reasons why we won’t do it.
Not only are two of my friends parents not going to Florida on vacation, they’re selling their condos down there, because they can’t keep up with the payments due to the exchange rate… Which has a side effect of crashing the real estate market… Because nobody wants a place in hurricane alley where the home insurance is $1600+USD/month, in addition to condo fees and mortgage payments.
Some of my best, most useful programs sort data from disparate sources into enormous Hash-Of-Hash structures to produce extremely insightful reports. And I wrote the first version 25 years ago.

I do my best to check as I’m putting things into my cart, but also double-check at the checkout. I caught a few things that had ‘Canada’ on the front of the box (“#1 brand in Canada!”) that was actually made in the USA. I put it aside at the checkout. Putting it aside at the checkout and demonstrating to others that you won’t buy American is encouragement for others to do the same.

Uh, most Democrats or at least Democrat-leaning voters who stayed home did so because of the America’s involvement in genocide, and the fact that living conditions for the average joe haven’t really changed in the last 4 years. Wall Street isn’t the barometer for success of the economy, Main Street is.
Big picture: Because the cost of living (inflation is just one component) has been increasing for 40 years, with very little increase in compensation or benefits.
Small picture: Canada Post wants to exploit delivery/logistics workers the way Amazon does, and that’s a crock of shit.
My building’s AC failed when it was supposed to be started up in May about a decade ago. The condo ended up buying a portable AC unit for each apartment – some people were pissed because they had to pay the electricity to operate it. We asked them if they’d like us to take the unit back, and 100% of them said no. :)
It was an awful summer, but the A/C was replaced with a new modern unit, and not only was it better, but it used about half the power of the 30 year old unit.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall when CSIS shows him printouts of his communications or the balances of bank accounts he’s been trying to hide.
It’s a tough job, and it should be paid well. When I was a kid, my brother in law was a postie, and made a decent living. He had a house, a nice car, and could take two vacations a year. Nobody can afford that shit, even unionized.
And remember – a rising tide lifts all boats – if they get a good deal, it makes it easier for others to get a better deal.
The seaway union negotiated hard, and got a very good increase, better benefits, and management agreed to increase their workforce so there was less overtime. It cost management tens of millions in losses that it didn’t need to lose.
As much as I dislike all politicians, JT is the least-awful of the available options.
I’d actually support him if he’d delivered on the promise of electoral reform. Sacrificing the ability of liberals to have a majority in the future for the stability of our political system SHOULD have been the altruistic choice.
That, and raising the minimum wage at the federal level would have elinimated a lot of the economic problems we’re having – homelessness, poverty, people getting fucking scurvy in the year 2024.
Times are tough
If only there were someone in charge who could do things that would make things ‘not so tough’… Like increasing minimum wage, encouraging unionization, improving healthcare… and taking millionaires and billionaires to pay for it…

Thug Ford got a 67% majority provincial government with 7% of eligible voters choosing him.
Ask yourself… If Putin was President of America and wanted to destroy 200 years of progress, who would he put in charge of the various departments… And then this all makes sense.
