  • The point being discussed is that this is a terrible law and an example of Mississippi being a shit hole

This is not the comment I replied to. The comment I replied to was essentially saying that MS and therefore the US are not worth visiting, and I think that’s silly.

    “This is fine”

I didn’t say this. I actually agree with you that the MS law is terrible, but trying to push back on the general sentiment of the original comment I replied to: saying the US is the “worst” because of something that Mississippi does.

  • I think Lemmy specifically doesn’t fall victim to the issue of certain news agencies and personalities being exclusive to the platform as much as Mastodon does with Twitter. You can get the same news here as long as someone is there to post it, but that’s where Lemmy is a bit behind at the moment: we haven’t hit that critical mass of users such that smaller communities have enough content to sustain themselves. Maybe the platform isn’t ready for all those people quite yet either; I think the software has a little maturing to do before mass adoption would happen.

  • Where did he say it’s not an imminent threat? All he’s saying is that it’s not extinction level and the worst outcomes are not yet inevitable, which are both true statements. I do actually see a lot of climate apathy around and focusing on solutions and policy rather than doomerism seems like a good thing to me.
