If you disagree with the numbers you can argue them coherently. Like, that’s how facts work. If there are issues with the data you make a compelling argument by pointing them out. Data doesn’t give a fuck about your feelings, refusing to contribute meaningfully to the argument doesn’t make you superior, it makes you look like an idiot, and doubling down on your refusal to engage meaningfully with the content makes you look even dumber.

You have time to hand wave away shit you don’t agree with but don’t have time to make.a cogent argument? You’re too good for.it.all when you’re called out for it? Is it maybe because.you don’t understand economics?

Because I sure as fuck don’t. But I do understand that its a real academic.discipline that involves lots of real math that I also.don’t understand. And while I take most.of what I read on the internet with a grain of salt people in this thread that do appear to understand some of those things are indicating this Dara is likely correct. And those arguing that it isnt don’t appear to be able to articulate why.

So my own conclusion is that there’s probably.something to this. But it doesnt really matter if there is or isnt, really, because I’ll never do anything with the info. Still, I choose to see this as a glimmer of.hope in troubling times.

Although if you are able to articulate your “all economics.is bullshit” theory, I’m pretty sure the many many doctorate holders in economics would love to have you destroy their field of study. It is illegal in Canada to have sexual depictions of a child whether its a real image or you’ve just sat down and drawn it yourself. The rationale being that behavior escalated, and looking at images goes to wanting more

It borders on thought crime which I feel kind of high about but only pedophiles suffer which I feel great about. There’s no legitimate reason to have sexualized image of a child whether computer geneerate, hand drawn, or whatever.

Sometimes objects im using have like, a personality and desire? Like they won’t want to get thrown out or there’s some kind of relationship between two forks.

I’m starting to take an issue with everyone who isn’t trans though, and how weirdly obsessive and angry everyone iand their mother is about an issue that doesn’t affect a vast majority of the population.

I get that people can care about more than one issue at once. But wage inequality, homelessness, war, genocide,declining standards of living, student loans - there are so many issues that deserve our collective consideration and action on more.

It’s a non issue. What other people do to themselves and how they present themselves is their business. Its not that these issues don’t matter, they do, but we have bigger fish to fry and while I’m personally glad to see such a widespread desire to advance causes like this I can’t help but feel like the time so many people spend bickering online about it is time that could be better spent offline doing things that would advance these causes anyway.

And it doesn’t help that the time spent bickering isn’t even productive. It’s just people who already agree withe sch otherr aggressively reinforcing each others,’ beliefs to the point of militancy.

I’m not allowed to have opinions on the subject, and I largely don’t because it really doesn’t affect me snd I’m already in support of people being able to live how they choose anyway, but I’m bombarded with posts about the issue wherever I go, and I’m ju#t so fatigued by how little it matters on the grand scale of things, while being sensitive to how it can be the most important things of the world to some people.

Im pretty sure even fighting in a war at gunpoint is not a Buddhist to thing to do. Genocide definitely disqualified you. Though culturally and religious Buddhist are two different things. The Buddha basically told everyone not to worship him and make him a religious figure and every sect of Buddhism just kind of turned around and did it anyway. Their justification is “lol”. So like. I dunno. Buddhism kind of accepts that everything anyone can or will do is something they’ve done. And existence is suffering. Freeing yourself from attachment and embracing the moment with love and kindness is a person thing, and sure genociders may be cenociding other people but ultimately through a Buddhist lens they’re harming themselves and straying further from enlightenment in the here and now.

Nothing really like MATTERS for a Buddhist in the big picture sense. We live, we do things, we die, ultimately none of it comes to anything. There’s no one watching over you to punish you or praise you, and nothing for you after you die but more of this through a different lens or to finally be done with the bullshit and leave it all behind…

It’s a doctrine for being happy NOW. Follow it, don’t, ultimately you’re the only person it matters to.

I think they just understand whatost executibes are too greedy / shit sighted / stupid to understand. Doing what’s right for consumers drives revenue. It can be good for the consumer and motivated by profit. They’re not mutually exclusive.

I think they do hell the consumer. And agree it’s weird. But would argue against that being their goal with the caveat that what I’m about to say makes no real difference to anything.

I think they’re looking to increase profits first and foremost. However, because they’re not answerable to shareholders, they understand that the best way to do this is by building loyalty and ensuring “stickiness” loyalty. ¹

It’s still about money. They just understand that the safest way to make it is by having a long term view and not burning people.
