  • Not at all. The judges appointed by the opposition party, protect the laws made by the opposition party, when they were in government. This way the government can not just ignore those laws. So most countries have very long term limits for judges to deal with that. Hence a single government can not just stack the courts. Term limits are used, so no single government just happens to be able to appoint a lot more judges then usual. However even with the term limit being death, a court like the US supreme court has judges appointed by five different presidents for example.

Hope dissociates from the present and the future, externalizing your care into an imagined future you can not affect.

There is a difference between “wishing” and “hope”. “Wishing” actually does externalize the way you can shape the future you want. “Hope” on the other hand just lays out a positive future, which you can strive for.

That “hope” in form of a vision distinct and different to neoliberalism is one of the biggest reason the left has failed so badly in the last decades. We just need a vision of the future, which is practical in the real world. Hence worker cooperatives, permaculture, renewable energy, co-housing and all those other great projects, which actually can replace neoliberalism are so important. Without those working alternatives, we are doomed to just fight the evils of neoliberalism, fascism and dictatorships forever, as we can just never set up that alternative. Obviously we also should not fool ourself into believing it will be perfect if those are gone, but it hopefully is better.

  • There are too many connections as to believe that this is just passive support. Hamas knows it gets support from Israel and both sites benefit from it. Hamas itself is a deeply corrupt and downright evil organization, which is hated in Gaza for torture, rape and destroying public services. They need the big enemy Israel to justify them being in charge.

Israel or better Netanyahu and his fellow fascists need Hamas to stop peace talks with the Palastinians. If there is a genuine peace in the region, he would almost certainly loose elections. Kind of a similar situation to Hamas really.

  • The last budget also only had €4billion for Ukraine aid. That was increased by €3billion to the €7 billion actually send in the end. The reason for that is simple. We do not know how the war will continue or even if. So the German government signs big deals with the military industry, which give the industry the ability to set up large scale production, but allow the German government to stop ordering more weapons quickly. Then additional funding is approved as need be. So if somebody takes Putins job and makes peace with Ukraine, Germany does not send unneeded arms to Ukraine.

Sorry, but that is the background. German government communication sucks for a lot of reasons.
