Douglas! Get your squirrel out of my tree! He’s stealing all my nuts again!
The first two seasons of Andromeda were ok. After that, it became the Kevin Sorbo show. From what I understand, he was always a pain to work with, but when he demanded greater control over the direction Andromeda took, things went downhill. I still haven’t finished the series.
NGL, I kinda want to see the dumpster fire of a show starring Kevin Sorbo, Tim Allen, and Scott Baio. As if the last two seasons of Andromeda weren’t bad enough, lol
I agree with you 100%. What they are latching on to is the fact that SOMETIMES, in EXTREMELY LIMITED AND SPECIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES, some enslaved people were able to “hire themselves out” as craftsmen when they had done whatever work the enslaver had required of them. An even more limited number of those enslaved people were paid for their work and got to keep their pay.
But the percentage of people we are talking about here is tiny … but it is nonzero. The standard therefore isn’t completely wrong, but it absolutely gives the impression that these cases were waaaay more common than they actually were.
I’m honestly surprised that it didn’t happen right after Brexit. There was definitely talk of unification so people in Northern Ireland could continue to be a part of the EU and visit the other parts of the island with no Troubles. (Pun absolutely intended)
With the amount of aspartame I drink, I’d like the process to hurry up already, please.
It’s the whole “edge of space” thing that really pisses me off. When the billionaires started talking about creating their own space program, I was expecting corporate settlements on the moon or Mars–dystopian, to be sure, but at least humanity would be making progress to the stars. But no, let’s be content with charging people to get to the edge of space so they can go home and tell themselves they’re astronauts.
Relevant username. (Are we doing that on Lemmy?)
And the good boy did such a fantastic job with the herding!
If you’re going to go, go hard and just have a brief flash of a porno, maybe 1 or 2 frames long. A random curse word could still be rated PG-13 in the US
I mean, I wasn’t expecting to quit Reddit and Twitter at the same time, but here we are.
Exactly. I probably wouldn’t actually email it home, just look for the reaction. If they look worried, then yeah, I’d definitely send it home. I’ve had kids cuss me out in Spanish on papers before, not believing I’d actually translate it and bust them.
History teacher here. If this was turned in to me, rhe first thing I’d do is laugh, then have a conversation with the student. If s/he says they’d be ok with me emailing a copy of this to their parents (I’m assuming the parents speak Chinese), then I’d just give them an A for pure gall. If the kid isn’t from a Chinese-speaking family, I’d probably still give him/her kudos and then make them turn in whatever they put into Google translate to begin with. But really, this is the kind of malicious compliance I wish my students had the creativity to pull off.
Considering how much hair Neelix had, I wonder if he tried to convince Kes to ignore the razor
