Had an appointment for an NBN tech visit yesterday morning, cause the internet in the place we moved into was shot. Mate came in at 830 in the morning.

He quickly determined it wasn’t our box that’s the problem, but a faulty thingamajig on the street post, but he didn’t have the right parts on him. He had to leave, but he promised he’d get it sorted within the day. We were prepared to wait it out until the Monday, but mate came back on at almost 7pm on a Friday, just to get it sorted like he said, and sorted it he did.

Just thought that was so nice of him, and I really appreciate it. Gave him a drink early on, but wish I gave him more of it, and hopefully he doesn’t mind all his work went into a night’s worth of very bad Dota.

Yeah I just wish the lemmy ONI community was a bit more active. I should be above 2K hours in now too, and I haven’t won yet. My current run I’m trying to get up to 20 dupes while also trying my first attempt at something magma power.

As a (not quite so recent) migrant to AU, I got my first notice of rent increase earlier today, and hooboy. I really don’t want to have to move again, and I’m really starting to warm up to where I am, but I most likely will have to if my landlord doesn’t agree to my request to reconsider. Bummer.

Went down to Bonbeach for the anniversary farmer’s market, but spent too much time getting out of bed it seems. Literally ran out of food on three stalls while I was in queue, with one cutting off right in front of me. 😅

It’s unquantifiable, yes, possibly even placebo at times, but I think of it as paying for the features on top of search. I particularly find being able to create and adopt a search “lens” / focus and the ability to (de)prioritise domains very useful for my situation and needs.

That being said, I totally agree with your sentiment. I also only have limited subscriptions I can practically maintain, and I feel like this one’s earned it’s place well enough. To each their own I guess.

I’ve recently started paying for unlimited searches over on Kagi, and I’m very happy with the results so far. I’d gladly pay if it meant less search cruft and higher result quality, but sadly Google’s just been going downhill for quite a while now.
