Add in sponsors that some ass holes throw 2-3 in a video (FU LTT) and I don’t know how people watch YouTube with ads. It sucks so bad.
I do pay for premium, but use smart tube on my android tv box and it feels so good when it rolls right past them.

I would agree…except look at all the resources that were wasted trying to recover survivors from the Oceangate implosion.
It’s happened:
Some things just shouldn’t be connected to the internet.
Well, they would know wouldn’t they.
This is REALLY cool and helpful. I just tried it with the 3 accounts I have and it worked flawlessly.
Only suggestion would be to have the app check a servers defederated list and disregard any communities that you cannot subscribe too. This would prevent a lot of errors that happen when going through the sync. This is pretty minor as the app does seem to skip the community after the error but I suspect it would be a little faster if it just rejectected the community via internal software. Some users who are not aware of defederated communities may get confused by the errors as well.
Maybe this isn’t very realistic? If it isn’t, never mind. :)
Windows 7 was peak Windows. They smoothed out all the problems of Vista (plus hardware caught up to the recommended specs) and all the new tech that Vista introduced matured a bit. Was one of the nicest looking operating systems they ever released too - though that is highly subjective.
Everything after has introduced some form of garbage in it’s iteration. Windows 8 had a garbage tablet interface that sucked when used with keyboard/mouse. Like the majority of devices that it was installed on. Windows 10 rolled back some of those shit changes but was the version Microsoft started implementing their adware. Windows 11 took it to 11 and put in a bunch of hardware requirements that conveniently required you to dump some money into Intel hardware.
Been running Linux for last six months and it is crazy how much better it runs. It isn’t as cumbersome to use as the old days… But every once in a while I run into something that requires Googling and tweaking in Terminal. It’s been my best experience with the OS though going back to WAY back (Mandrake and Slackware days - or are they still around? Early 2000’s maybe???)
Well are you factoring in the costs to the automobile like they mentioned? As they say they are a hidden cost and can be quite considerable long term as delivering pizzas adds a lot of wear and tear on a vehicle. When I delivered a LOOOONNNG time ago the costs really did sneak up on me. It was a fun job, and initially I thought it paid well - till I got a couple surprises.
Well, to be fair they are counting streaming ad free versions against cable tvs ad ridden service. Not exactly apples to apples is it. I helped my brother move this weekend and they put Apollo 13 on for my mom to watch (on DIRECTTV Paramount channel). It was still on when we finished. Fucking unwatchable.
But yeah, streaming is starting to not look like such a bargain. And it’s going to get worse no doubt. But I quit cable, and I can quit streaming as well. Not sure I even need to pirate, plenty of other low cost entertainment options.
Oh yeah I agree. It’s got to be a challenge to bring all his characters and plot lines together. Sadly, I think the show is the only ending we are going to get.
Might give George Martin some incentive to finish Winds of Winter though.
Agreed. Apples stance on privacy is more about PR and keeping ad competitors at a disadvantage on their platform than actual privacy. Only reason they might not fall in line is if they feel there is enough public opposition to it to get some PR and make Google look bad. Not too optimistic on that though since most people are oblivious to the issue.
Kagi has been great. I’d like to see more searches on their $5 plan as 300 searches a month doesn’t feel adequate. It has been great being able to promote, demote, and block sites from searching and I have found my results to be more helpful and relevant than Google alternatives I tried. I don’t think I have used Google search at all since signing up. Highly recommend.
They address this on their website and go in further detail on their privacy policy. You’d have to read through that to decide if they do enough to earn your trust. But in my opinion not having any advertising removes most of their incentive to try to collect user data. I suppose there could be a temptation to collect the data to resell, but since a large portion of their income relies on the reputation of being a search alternative that has a focus on privacy I feel the risk to their reputation would be greater than whatever revenue that would generate.
Of course there are all kinds of companies that flew too close to the sun and sold out user privacy for a Coke and a smile. I’ve decided to go with Kagi and have been very happy with them so far. If they ever sell out I’ll cash out, but they seem to be the best option for me right now.
Wouldn’t Textra be able to implement the MLS standard and then do E2EE through that protocol? I’m probably not understanding it very well.
Would this be a pathway for android texting apps like Textra to add chat support to other rcs users? It appears Google isn’t going to open the RCS API.
Money is green in the US.
(Long pause)… yes.
