So pretty much one of those smart speaker things with a pin on it, for hundreds of $$$ and a subscription to boot? What a great idea…
Some dingbat that occasionally builds neat stuff without breaking others. The person running this public-but-not-promoted instance because reasons.

I’ve never heard of this thing, is it supposed to do what the analyze this picture or ID the song playing features of my phone already could do, or is there something novel I’m missing?
I’m curious the method here. The USA I would guess at being 90%+ firmly one or the other with a handful of squishy between, but how do they measure the level of it… 🤔
A vote is a vote, but that’s not the solution I spoke of. Rather than trying to push people to disengage or vote 3rd party, neither of which will make any meaningful difference to the situation (even in the million to one chance some 3rd party did get elected, they’re a politician and will do politician things), why not take the situation into your own hands and create the company run by someone who won’t behave like a capitalist?
Create the next Google, but you can be the one who really follows the “don’t be evil” mantra and in the process usurp the throne from the capitalists who have gone wrong. Once that is done you have the ability to simply hand the reigns over to anyone working there and walk away knowing the problem of that particular market is now solved.
The amusing thing about the people who complain that capitalists are the root of all problems, they don’t make an effort to correct it.
Take the situation of this story. If your ideals are pure and would have the popular support of a critical mass of people, there is absolutely not one thing preventing the establishment of a company, chartered as a public good corporation, and ran as a non-profit entity to provide these kind of material goods for people at cost, or if someone is willing to subsidise the production even less so if you like. You could even get the seed money from a crowd sourced campaign, or so called ‘angel investors’ no strings attached, no ownership stakes to distribute.
Oh come on, you think some would do that? Go in the internet and tell lies?
I mean it is or at least should be a policy on most sites already, it’ll be nice to have some teeth beyond banning their accounts though.
If they’re already giving exclusive access to Google for search and AI training, my bet is it’s all in a bid for ‘please buy us daddy Google’, and let them handle it from there.
Now there’s a creative way to pilfer the working class’ money, have their taxes fund things exclusively used by the rich. Next they’ll make a ‘public’ marina for the local yacht club.
After all, they wouldn’t want anyone to call them out on continuing chicanery during such a trivial event as their home country’s presidential election cycle…
Who is surprised here, raise your object manipulation attachment, er, hand…
Yet I see those same posts screen-shot and posted here as though they was reliable news sources.
I know Finland isn’t exactly friendly with Russia, but the fact that you argue this from an instance run by someone a hop and a skip from Moscow is a beautiful irony…
All trolls, no, but given the notorious prevalence of media manipulation seen out of the region it’s a given that some not insignificant portion of the loudest voices are here looking to cause trouble.
Something I’ve noticed is that if something is posted with a positive view of Biden there’s a fairly consistent pattern where it gets up voted initially but as the day gets later and more into the daytime hours of your Russia/China side of the world the down votes start to come in. One can speculate on that for what it’s worth I guess…
We’ve permitted bribery for years with that alternate name of lobbying, nothing new really there.
The official acts thing is far more troubling particularly since as I understand it they left the declaration of what is ‘official’ ambiguous saying the lower courts would have to decide on each case. If so it opens a door for years of infighting as different districts decide their preferred person was working as president or candidate in any given action.
True, I’m more referring to the primaries in 2016 and 2020. You get all too many around here clamoring for 3rd party protest votes or disengagement.
Even with the sketchy goings on during those two, if there was an overwhelming vote for Bernie (who’s no younger mind you, but it’s an alternate that appeals to a different demographic) it’d be a tough sell to go against that even if the party did get a court to agree they could.
Even without party backing though, if there was a particular person that people took to en-masse the rules don’t preclude them from office or appearing on national ballots. Look at Trump, people at first wrote him off as a joke, similar to the other times he ran before, now he’s a major threat to both parties.
If only folks had gotten off their tail and voted for an alternate candidate rather than sitting on the couch whining about our political system and making memes…
Then a new theory emerges, the lost filling pie earth, in which the creator was actually in the midst of forming the planet, got distracted and threw the shell in the oven without the contents.
This has the added benefit of explaining global warming and it conveniently fits over the shell of a giant turtle.
Because you can put in those equal rights laws and enforce them, along with all the various other things like building roads and schools and such. To think you can just outlaw racism and such is foolish though. You would be trying to literally tread into thought police territory there.
Don’t recall where I indicated any of them where controversial, care to point it out? I simply pointed that this complaint of ‘no progress’ is ignoring some pretty major progress over the years.
Racism, homophobia, and the like are not a matter that can be solved politically. One can make all the affirmative action and equal rights rules you like but the issue at the root is society and culture based. Educational standards are being fought against in our most conservative states pushing for religious indoctrination and denying historical reality.
You have a wing that actively pushes the militarization of the police over community support and engagement, and those same people trying to turn society back to the ‘traditional norms’ as they existed before the civil rights movement.
Given the realities of the need to actually get votes through, just how would you suggest those things be fixed?
They claim $100 B in ‘losses’ to this kind of game. Unless they’re actually running red on their books what they really mean is ‘we think we should make at least $100 B more per year’.
I’m sure that the vast majority of that would go directly to the front of house employees they’re pinning this on too, definitely not to the execs and share holders…
