  • Nowadays, a relevant part of the post-war and grandchildren’s generation is forcefully advocating the continued existence of precisely this capitalism. They believe that its “value-based liberalism” gives them the moral legitimacy to sweep away competing capitalisms because their competitors are not “liberal” but “authoritarian.” As if they were not subject to the same laws of the marketplace. The bottom line is that the “liberality” of the West lies only in the granting of no-cost freedoms, which are valid as long as one premise always remains untouched: submission to the principle of the exploitation of man and nature.

  • Sorry to play devil’s advocate here, and I don’t mind if I get a million downvotes, but the causes are well-understood and have been for a while. It’s easy to dismiss AfD voters as a bunch of uneducated, disruptive rubes while failing to see how much employment in Eastern Germany is different from the one in the West. If you have a university degree, you’ll up and leave first chance you get because wages are so much higher in the West. Else, you’ll try to survive for decades on a string of one-year contract-low-skill-jobs somewhere out in the woods, as this is completely normalized in the East. The influence, even the very existence of labor unions and works committees is greatly diminished, too, compared to the West. Inflation and rent hikes hit just the same or worse, though. Towns and cities are getting depopulated big time, especially de-womanized. People in the East feel left behind by common-run big-city politicians, and AfD has been filling this gap very systematically and effectively.

  • Right? Way too often, I see some really interesting comments sitting at 0 or -1, and some still somewhat interesting and/ or arguably good-faith comments have something like -50 because they go against the current direction of the herd. I usually upvote at least the former, but for the latter, it’s not going to matter much, unfortunately.
Furthermore, some mods get way too personally invested and take an obvious disliking to you so everything you contribute will be pushed to the bottom of the stack anyways.
