Overall the state has a major shortage of beds. Cities and counties across California reported in 2023 a little more than 71,131 beds in either an emergency shelter or transitional housing. The state would need more than twice that number to accommodate everyone.

Even your own article shows how bad faith that argument is, but it’s from the US so it makes sense. The US media loves their propaganda. It points out that US laws makes it impossible for a ship to dock at the US for 180 days after docking at Cuba. They regularly fine and sanction foreign countries and foreign companies when dealing with Cubans. A ton of banks have stopped dealing with Cuba because of this. They also prevent US used goods from being traded to Cuba when it is a part of a bigger thing, so if any part of a foreign made product has something from the US, it can’t be traded over. This ends up including tons of medical equipment, farming equipment, scientific equipment, etc. There’s a bunch of other laws, too. Family members can’t even wire over remittances any more without paying tons of money.

Of course they can’t force other companies but they make it nearly impossible for companies to trade with the US and Cuba if they want to make a profit. Especially considering the power of the dollar in the US market. That’s what makes it a blockade. Saying a bunch of these facts while giving a “false” is extremely bad faith. It’s like saying Trump didn’t cause January 6th because he didn’t tell people directly to riot. It’s a very surface reading.

The Cuban government of course isn’t perfect, but that doesn’t detract from the power the US has on them. Plus, when the Republicans went to protest on January 6th it was against their own government, but that doesn’t mean they had a point. Most of the protests were from power failures, long food and medicine lines, and Covid lock downs, which is partly the government’s fault and partly the US’s for making them a poor country and restricting their ability to get medicine and make food through the sanctions I mentioned above. And partly just Covid’s fault, every country dealt with that. But the President went out and talked with them, and the country ended up making some economic reforms recently. That’s more than I’ve seen the US ever do in response to protests lol. If we really want to know if the Cuban government is so terrible, you should support the US lifting the embargo so the government can ruin itself. It obviously hasn’t destroyed the government over the last 60 years anyway.

They need to trade with people for money and food. If their closest neighbor let them trade, I guarantee Cuba would be saying the opposite to stay on the good side of them. But since they can’t, and Russia was iced out of the world economy pretty much, of course they’d extend a hand to Cuba, which is similarly iced out. And of course they’d accept for the good of their people. Who knows if they actually care how that war goes, they’re just a tiny island nation that wants to be able to eat and survive. We can’t blame them for making decisions under this kind of duress.

It would be a good idea, but historically centrist liberals will team up with conservatives to stop the left before the opposite. Let’s see what happens in France.

I need to start looking at plane tickets and foreign visas, don’t I? I don’t know if I want to stick around and fight fascists in a civil war. I’ve got a life and a family. I mean, they have to sign some paperwork to make it an official act, but otherwise what’s the difference? They don’t have to arrest anyone according to this ruling, if I’m reading this correctly. Sure, us normal citizens probably do, but according to the court, presidents don’t have to follow the law if it’s an official act. That’s kind of the basis of the dissent. It separates the rules we follow and our leaders have to follow.

There’s a reason Progressives don’t like it. It’s that same attitude that led to Biden being picked in the first place, and Clinton before him. They pick the senior person in the Party and then elevate them through donations, the Party apparatus gives them staff, email lists, endorsements, connections to media to push them up, and more to reward them for years of service.

People are finally realizing maybe we don’t live in a great democracy just in time to lose it. At this rate, I’ll take anyone who can beat Trump. If it’s Biden I’ll take it. But I’m not sure it is…

It won’t happen if the liberals pressure him enough. That’s the thing. He’s already made some concessions in rhetoric scared of the changing narrative. We can have both Biden and a stop to a genocide with enough public pressure. The election isn’t until November. I don’t believe a genocide is the only choice as long as we live in a democracy, can build a movement, and he’s a rational candidate (which I think he is).

And still vote, I’m not saying don’t do that. I will. I’m just saying I get why other people complain about him. I’m sure they’ll still vote down ballot, and would even vote for him if he changed tact on Israel.

I get that Project 2025 is scary, but so is Project 2029, and 3033. We shouldn’t have to accept that we’ll be an evil empire forever, always choosing between two flavors of genocidal maniac, forever cursed to enact horrible terrors on the international stage, awaiting the inevitable drop into fascism. We can use this moment to get the President to stop bowing to a foreign state that’s been troublesome to us for decades. Even Reagan had to smack Israel down.. He’s been slowly improving, and I get why other people would use this moment where a possibly sway-able Democratic President is in the office and has a looming election as leverage.

A genocide is actually happening however you choose to spell it or sarcastically pronounce it. It’s a serious thing. Children are dying. Millions are becoming refugees. A mass famine is spreading. It’s a perfectly reasonable line to draw to not vote for someone enabling it, especially if it can possibly pressure that person to take a better actions to save their job. It doesn’t require bad faith arguments or fake troll bots. It requires actual humans with real morals and ethics appalled by what they are seeing and who actually believe “never again” means “never again”, especially when it’s something done by their government that their voice can possibly change.

He still has time to improve his stance, if it’s not for moral reasons or to save lives, I hope it eventually becomes to save his job and keep Trump out of office, though I’m not sure the movement will ever become big enough to affect his electoral chances with how much influence AIPAC has in our politics, and how much liberal Americans hate Trump more than genocide, so you can probably rest easy on that front.

Biden could do good things but still not have it outweigh causing a genocide in some people’s eyes. I may not even agree with them, but I can see from their point of view, and totally empathize with that.

But yes, this is a good thing. I’d rather we celebrate this good thing without getting side tracked by the bad things Biden has done or arguments about how bad they are.
