  • You know what we do in engineering when we need to understand a system a lot of the time? We instrument it.

Please explain why this can’t be instrumented. Please explain why the trace data could not be analtzed offline at different timescales as a way to start understanding what is happening in the models.

I’m fucking embarassed for CS lately.

  • Yeah, but the critical question is: is human intelligence statistics?

Seems no, to me: a human lawyer wouldn’t, for instance, make up case law that doesn’t exist. AI has done that one already. If it had even the most basic understanding of what the law is and does, it would have known not to do that.

This shit is just megahal on a gpu.

  • For the operatives put in danger and/or killed, it was worth human life?

You seem to be ignoring that Assange either knowingly or unknowingly risked peoples’ lives, people who had often given those lives into great risk in service of their country.

When the leaks first happened, I was supportive of Wikileaks (a natural position for an anti-war person like me). Later, when it was revealed that there had been no or little due diligence to ensure the information had been vetted and scrubbed, I realized how extreme it can be on both ends of the political spectrum.

Stop trying to paint this with some large political brush.

Assange is not a hero. The US government is not innocent.

  • Gonna just stream of consciousness some stuff here:

Been thinking lately, especially as I have been self-hosting more, how much work is just managing data on disk.

Which disk? Where does it live? How does the data transit from here to there? Why isn’t the data moving properly?

I am not sure what this means, but it makes me feel like we are missing some important ideas around data management at personal scale.
