It’s not that easy to steer clear of. I’ve bought a couple of books on other topics from Amazon and realized when they arrived that they weren’t worth the cost of the paper they were printed on. It’s easy enough to notice it’s bullshit, it’s harder to avoid spending money and time on them in the first place.
I don’t believe that for a second. Some specific apps are only on one platform or the other but every app has a ton of alternatives that do the exact same thing.

That wasn’t an attack on you specifically. Most people don’t need to know nor care if they can unlock the bootloader. We need some kind of federal mandate/law/whatever that says that they have to be unlocked and people can do what they want with the $1k+ devices they buy. It’s not even a question with a pc, you can even buy prebuilt systems with no OS or with linux installed if you choose.
This is why I have been a so called Google fanboy/super fan for what feels like a couple of decades. First nexus and now pixel because I’m guaranteed to be able to install whatever flavor of android exists for whatever phone I am using (if I so choose), I haven’t played with roms in years but it’s an option if I feel like it and I’m considering doing it for my work phone, get that shit running as lean as possible, no need for 99% of the Google apps that come with it.
But, that wasn’t your only choice for a device. Android runs on basically anything and you have plenty of options for devices that let you do what you want with it.
Basically, the bootloader being locked is a manufacturer problem and not an android problem. Buy a different phone, smartphones have fully matured at this point. Grab a pixel 7 or 7 pro for a couple of hundred bucks and make that device your biotch.
This is why I never had anything more than an original ipod classic. Android let’s you do whatever the fuck you want with your own device. Don’t like having Google all over your phone? You can install roms with no Google services and use other app stores.
Like I said, it’s not that big of a deal and I can live without it.
That’s good to know. I’m surprised that the 2 I currently have to use chrome for aren’t already on FF. As I said, I should probably send them an email and ask them to launch one for FF.
It’s not an addon, it’s extensions for services like klarna and zip that let you pay for things over time. Those 2 for example have apps that I can and do use but if I want to use them to pay for say concert tickets it’s easier to have it all on my big screen so I can look at whats available and then copy and paste the number into the checkout.
It’s not life or death and I can live without it. It is however the only reason I use chrome on my desktop these days.
I only use chrome for a couple of extensions that aren’t available for firefox. I should probably reach out to those companies and request that they get a firefox extension working.
I haven’t side loaded anything in years. In decades past I played around with custom roms and at some point I may look into the pixel roms for my older phones.
Aside from the usual issues that popup with any os for any device, I’ve had very few problems and none that stopped me from using my device.
I refuse to touch apple with someone’s else pole. I like being able to install apps that aren’t from the store and I can do that without having to hack my phone.
I equate apple to AOL. When you are new to tech apple just works but when you learn that there is more out there than apples walled garden you look at android that let’s you do so much more and has so much more choice for hardware. Not to mention cost.

Huh? A hammer will take care of that easy peasy. Good chance someone will figure out a way for a machine to break them open and sort out the battery from the rest or just have people smacking them with hammers or mallets.
You can still break down the vape and take the battery out of it to be recycled. Problem is that people just trash them instead of tossing it with electronics recycling (if that’s even considered cool). Maybe as we see battery recycling we will see people scrounging for these to turn in same as aluminum and glass bottles/cans.
Yeah, this doesn’t sound right. I’ve never seen a modem without an ethernet port. I’ve had everything from Verizon dsl in Tampa years ago to various cable providers including twc and now spectrum and as I said, every modem had an ethernet port. You can also add your own router even if it ends up adding an extra nat layer.
ATT was honing their evil while Comcast was still in diapers. You should look into the history of ATT and just how long they have been around in various forms.

Invest in a garmin. I had a few fitbits and they all had issues. I’ve been rocking a fenix 7x for nearly a year now and it’s been rock solid, even outside in the heat doing yard work.

When it goes up you can usually transfer to another provider for a decent discount. I recently did this with one of my domains when godaddy went nuts on a renewal for a domain I’ve had for like 10+ years at this point.
