Not at all (as long as you’re rich enough to bribe him and get served by his capers).
Not at all (as long as you’re rich enough to bribe him and get served by his capers).
Ooooh no. A government position would imply at least a shred of accountability. They’d lobby for privatisation. Failing that, they’d bribe the officials in charge to run the whole system into the ground so that they can argue a private entrepreneur could run it more efficiently, and then they’d do it with as little oversight as they can buy from their legislators.
The problem here is that it would reward the government for either a) punishing criminals but also b) framing innocents with the goal of taking their money. We’re seeing how well that works with the private prison industrial complex. In essence, it just creates an industry of creating criminals where there were none.
Punishing criminals severely is great. Making it a business will end up with the worst kind of people optimising the revenue from it.
The cellphone has a range of 100km. That thing is amazing.
Any trained monkey can use it.
At least you won’t have that particular problem again until you read about somebody who sneezed someone else’s intestines out of his body.
What? Now you can’t even turn the country into an absolutist dictatorship anymore? I thought this was AMERICA! Political correctness gone overboard!
Sorry, but no compassion from me: shouldn’t have built the road right under a lava stream. Stupid decision, really.
Just sad that the picts were exterminated/assimilated by the 12th century throughout the british isles.
Heart failure. Coincidentally right after the decapitation.
Ya know, I could have happily lived the rest of my life without knowing that and thinking of it every single time I’ll be seeing a toucan from now on, but noooo…
Shhhh, don’t tell Truman!
May update. May not update. Who’s to say?
Yes, Neil deGrasse Tyson, you are very jaded and knowledgeable. Now let the rest of us have fun.
I wish “a lot of rubes” were hyperbolic. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/feb/14/americans-believe-climate-change-study
Fox & Co are doing a splendid job of growing rubes.
a multiplayer game
No.
Not *A * multiplayer game. A multiplayer STAR WARS game. And not just any multiplayer Star Wars game - no, the single best received Star Wars game of its kind in the last two decades, coupled with its prequel… And they estimated around 200 people to play it at launch.
Like.
What.
How hard is it to just release a game that works?
Harder than delivering shit and cashing in just as much. The grab&run simply is more profitable than actually putting in the work - especially since there seem to be no palpable negative consequences.
Corporations want gamers to want mass subscriptions because they want to rent out their games forever instead of getting only a single payment for their product. And then they find flimsy excuses to push subscriptions for products that do not warrant subscriptions but are mutilated to squeeze some way of adding subscriptions into them. And then the corporations let games without subscriptions fail while pretending that subscription-based services are delivered because there’s demand and not because they don’t want to deliver finished products that don’t generate easy endless trickling revenue streams.
One plus is that it takes more than one autocratic greedy wannabe tyrant to enshittify your entire experience by forcing ads upon you while taking away all the good but not ad-delivery-optimised tools.
You misunderstand the role distribution. The American people are not the ones who are being protected from the big companies in the country.
They are the prey being offered to the big companies.
The companies have won. They are paying the legislation to provide a buffet of easily exploitable, squeezable unprotected victims. Depending on whether you need medical procedures, an education, or are just unlucky enough to be chosen to become labour in the private prison complex due to being the wrong colour, the companies are just waiting for you to fall into their respective web, at which point they own you, suck you dry and leave you to bankruptcy or worse.
