“Border being overrun” isn’t a thing, just like we don’t have a higher crime rate. Media just loves their stories, regardless of the truth.

That’s not even the ruling, though. The majority opinion states that they don’t have the right to challenge the ruling on behalf of their spouse. That their status as married to a US citizen affords them no right to contest the decision. I highly suggest reading the dissenting.
It’s Marxist-Leninist, the two-stage revolution. Stage one socialist dictatorship, stage two classless society. Communism doesn’t require Marxist-Leninism. In fact, judging by China’s backslide to state-run capitalism, it’s probably not even a feasible way to get to communism. Too much concentrated power, too much opportunity for abuse.
Miyazaki is trying to recreate the spontaneous cooperation he experienced with cars pushing cars up a snow covered hill. Honestly, their system is really cool if you treat it like a side thing, adding people when you really need help. Playing with friends, though, it’s kind of shit.
Right? Spit right in the royal families face and they pay you for the privilege. Priceless and hilarious
But won’t you think of Kevin from Nowhere, Idaho and his very real fear that droving gangs of bloodthirsty, drug-fuelled migrants will vote in his local elections? THINK OF THE KEVINS! /s
It works in his favor to do so. If you think Trump ever thinks beyond that, you’d be wrong.
We needed to be able to protect ourselves when we were individual tribes. That meant we needed to be able to hurt people if push came to shove. So, we can turn off the empathy when we’ve determined that someone is our enemy. And modern leaders abuse the shit out of that response for their own benefit. Because they want things and other people are in the way.
Hooray! I’m so glad, as a human, that were so comfortable with failure since it’s something we all do. And we know that we can admit when we fault and we can then do the work of righting the wrong instead of continuing going forever because we can’t be seen to have made a mistake. /s (fucking devastatingly so)
This is a flowery opinion piece about a study, with no rigorous deep-dive into the substance of the study. Yeah, no. Not gonna put any weight into this.
1.5C isn’t a point of no return
Again, replace the senate with proportional representation. Bicameral legislatures work, there’s no reason to be rid of the senate. Just give it a purpose beyond “you represent a state”. Expand the senate to 600 seats, National votes for party reps, 0.5% threshold to gain a seat, 6 year terms, rotate every two years. Then we’ll get actual third parties into office, which will break up the two party strangle hold.
You’re right. It’s better than free. It sets those kids up for a healthier life, making them more well rounded into adulthood. It’s a highly returning investment in our future.
By making them the same thing, you encourage gerrymandering. In the US, there’s no way for a third party to gain any representation. A national, proportional election would force the issue and allow for more diversity in political thought.
The house is Local Representation. You don’t vote for what party you want to see control the house, you vote for a local representative to represent you and your neighbors.
Merging the two houses won’t help. We need proportional representation. Make the senate 600 seats, and a national, proportional election (seats are given based on % of votes for the party). They’re still 6 year terms, with elections every two years. Seats are given to any party that can clear 0.5% to start, then the threshold is increased to 2% after 12 years. Then expand the house. Now you have local reps and proportional reps. Much better than giving “states” reps, which makes almost no sense.
Holy shit! This is it, the actual comic I read was a copy of JLX. I thought I had temporary insanity as a kid, reading a comic about Mr. X, leader of a teenage group of mutants, whose actual identity was the Martian Manhunter.
Huh. TIL
Hey. Shut the fuck up
