If you go a few levels deeper into minimum wages, tip laws, tax loopholes explanations as to why the world looks the way it does for all kinds of businesses.
Oregon has no sales tax so some beautiful Columbia riverfront property in Portland is a massive shopping complex built in the 60s so Washingtonians across the river can drive over and buy “tax free”, though I’m sure any benefits were long ago mostly neutered by retailers.
Ornithologists for those looking for the word, which I confused for a long time with opthalmology.
A little less prosecution a little corruption please
All this misdirection is satisfactionin’ me
A little less bite and a lot more dark
A lot less right just to serve the sharks
Close your mouth, evil off the chart baby pacify me
pacify me, baby
It’s not a matter of where it grips it, it’s a matter of weight ratios.
The Breakfast
Appreciate it…that’s one of those titles I’ve heard so many times and never watched it, finally committed to and just finished watching it, really enjoyed it. The dialogue is so sharp it reads more like a theatrical production, so well done it almost doesn’t seem like a movie, my how times have changed.
People also just get confused by terminology and the mechanics and do it on accident, though much less common if state isn’t including it on voter reg for sure.
The genesis of this post was a family member in a very blue state, who went to an ivy league school and is extremely progressive and was sick of blue/red and googled “independent party” in her state and when I sent her the party platform she was registered for she lost her mind.
Political parties vary by state, and registration processes do also as noted elsewhere in the thread. There may not be an Independent party in your state, but there are in others and it causes confusion.
The point of the post is to share the point of confusion so people can read up on their registration or state party platforms. If you’re not going to bother to learn about the differences that do exist, but still want to broadly claim “election year bullshit”, maybe you’re part of the problem you’re raging about.
What movie is this from? I see a very young Bardem
I’m in Oregon and it’s on the voter registration form, not required, but a big drop down with party name and no other info. Oregon is hardly red.
Picked some random states, they’re all different which is also part of the confusion when citizens move. They may not record it for the state but can those in the state still register or join a party on their own? Issue would still exist if so.
Oh it’s not the entirety, the employer has been paying tipped folks at least $2.35 per hour! What recompense.
The 7i exemption, also called tip credit allows employers to take tips reported and lower the wages they pay and replace those wages with tips the public pays and have it count toward the federal minimum wage, which is a whopping $7.25 per hour and hasn’t increased since 2009 thanks to corporate ownership of the GOP and fecklessness from Democrats. It’s difficult to say what is more offensive economically or socially.
The way to do it is to support ranked choice and other voting systems that are not first past the post all/nothing; this would eventually lead to changing of the composition of congress over time and the two parties would have to learn how to moderate and negotiate their stances just like happens in democracies all over the world.
It’s a common misconception but if you registered you aren’t “independent” you are a member of your state’s Independent party, who has a platform and agenda you may or may not agree with.
You don’t need to register with any party to show you don’t like R or D. Go for “little i independent”.
Just need a little bit more consolidation, trust us, just this little bit more, maybe once more…
Thanks to massive lobbying, and this won’t surprise anyone on Lemmy, but cosmetics as a whole have no regulatory oversight mechanism. The FDA can recommend things and it’s up to corporations to self-regulate, which usually works well with no significant fines to deter bad actors.
Don’t let your kids use anything.
I trust the tough on crime Republicans will be appalled and change their vote since they’re so against felons being involved in the democratic process–or are those just the darker-skinned ones it applies to?
That is like the footnote of what reddit did. I don’t want them to live rent free or anything but that’s like saying JFK died from the inertia of metallic elements.
True greatness in a meme is breadth, depth and staying power. Even bad memes can ferment into something better over time with the right tending.
