I’m surprised this isn’t a !megathreads@lemm.ee thing. But yeah, what you describe sounds like a case of wanting better closure to a certain issue. I can’t imagine this being an addiction, that would be sadism.
It’s nice to meet all you. I am she/her, can speak Toki Pona and English (non-natively), and locatable on Reddit as MozartWasARed. The claim about the book’s pre-existence or about it having a bigger role in the conceptualization of the Star Wars tradition than it had?
You say that like the title ever claimed the movie was actually based on the book.
Once again here to say I’m not saying the movie is based on the book. I, like you, just thought it was fascinating it turned out this way, and that we could wonder if the book is technically considered the beginning of Star Wars mania.
I thought Sheev was named for the prequels. I could’ve sworn they even made light of his name in the Robot Chicken specials.
All I wanna know is, was he Sheev back then?
I wasn’t trying to claim the movie was based on a book (not sure where that’s coming from), just that the book’s status as coming before the movie in terms of release has the weird effect of implying the hype train could’ve begun with a book and that one could argue Star Wars is technically a book series first, even if it’s a movie tradition first.
Like imagine back then any Lord-of-the-Rings-type discussions that could’ve played out, a la “did you see this movie, it’s awesome” followed by “yeah, but did you read the book?”
True, I just find it fascinating the movies have this large orbit of devotion, and then you have this book that could’ve put everyone on the hype train a few months early.
I mean there was a Superboy.
TIL people hate fandom.
Same. Would love DC’s unrealistic take on Tom and Jerry.
Sorry, habit of mine, didn’t know Lemmy out of everyone wouldn’t like people being communal with old posts. Found it while looking up the stuff I mentioned to see if it’s area-specific (which it is, the only caveat) and the search engine for some reason has a Lemmy bias.
The idea that a mugshot should be universally unsmiling is a social norm, it’s not a law and I wouldn’t see it like some kind of rule. My psych ward mugshot from the beginning of my dark times is still visible to anyone who looks me up by name, and I am quite thankful I was smiling in it, even if the only reason I was smiling was to try to imply nothing was wrong with me. Smiling is also a form of acknowledgement.
Is bolo’bolo a minimalist language?
That moment when Lemmy is only a month old and it already has traditions.
This all confused me, so you got me to look it up. Neither of us are wrong if https://www.panaynews.net/you-can-get-rabies-while-having-sex/ is anything to go by…
How would the virus travel in the body then if it’s not part and parcel in the parts of the body it’s being used to travel through?
I hadn’t put two and two together like that. What inspired all this was someone compared rabies to mononucleosis. Both are spread through saliva, but it was said during the comparison that we always think of that being rabies’ signature while in the case of mono it’s seen as an obligatory bodily fluid bonus in addition to the fact that mono is in the STD family, having to do with the fact that it’s normal for STD’s to be spread exclusively via bodily fluids, the logic being one should then think back to rabies and think “well of course it’s spread through bites, that’s the obligatory way something can be spread”, the only differences being rabies just happens to compel mammals to bite each other (hence us associating it with the saliva signature) and mononucleosis doesn’t typically kill anyone.
Referring to the part where they said they couldn’t find another place to run it by, with it possible to make a mood thread and that being used.
