Yea that seems pretty high. I have a solo pixelfed server that runs around $5 / month. It doesn’t get a lot of use though

Yeah it’s like if you had a calculator and 10% of the time it gave you the wrong answer. Would that be a good tool for learning? We should be careful when using these tools and understand their limitations. Gen AI may give you an answer that happens to be correct some of the time (maybe even most of the time!) but they do not have the ability to actually reason. This is why they give back answers that we understand intuitively are incorrect (like putting glue on pizza), but sometimes the mistakes can be less intuitive or subtle which is worse in my opinion.
Yeah if the settings panel had feature parity with control panel but with a better user experience nobody would mind but it’s less features AND a worse experience.
I remember trying to change some mouse settings on windows 10 but they removed the ability to get to the old mouse options from the desktop. I drilled down through the settings app and eventually buried deep I found where it would let me open up that same old mouse settings modal to get to what I wanted to change. More clicks, more searching, and less features = poor user experience
Yup, I like Lemmy but there are still those subreddits that Lemmy can’t fully replace for certain sports teams I follow.
I’m pretty sure you can install Firefox on those too can’t you?
Hexbear is mostly just trolls in my experience. They like to brigade any discussion involving Russia, China, Ukraine, etc.
Lemmy.ml is full of tankies that will also go out of their way to defend Russia and China but they aren’t just blatant trolls which is the difference.
Having controversial opinions isn’t the problem, trolling and brigading are
Guess it just depends but I see a lot of people interacting on certain topics and a lot of posts I make get a good amount of activity. I get way more interaction on my posts than I had on Twitter for instance.
Just peeking at the source code and it all looks like pretty standard stuff. Looks just like apps I’ve worked on at several jobs.
Is it sexy? No. But a lot of people have experience with this and could help develop.
Only time will tell if this project pays off though
It’s buried in the settings, but you are right. Thanks for the tip!
If they could just add album sharing and maybe face/object tagging it would be pretty solid imo
I’m trying it out since I just upgraded to proton unlimited.
It’s pretty barebones. It has automatic uploads but only from the camera folder. It does have the ability to share links, but no folder or album support for sharing. No face tagging or object recognition that Google does
I still haven’t launched a rocket in this game. Every time I end up starting a new save before I make it that far.
To be fair this is how I play a lot of games so not just this one
He is actually correct. The math does check out.
The minimum wage in 1938 was worth about $5.44 in today’s money. The peak minimum wage adjusted for inflation was in 1968 which would have been worth $13.46 in today’s money

Reading mode defeats that a lot of the time if your browser supports it
I guess I still disagree with that premise. A single Netflix subscription offers more variety of content than a basic cable package for a lot less money.
And if you rotate services every 1-2 months you can get all the choice in content for a lot less money than a cable bundle that way as well.
It’s like saying there are too many restaurants because if you ate at all of them every month it would be more expensive than going to one really expensive restaurant that serves every type of food. Meanwhile it’s cheaper if you choose 1-2 of the cheaper restaurants to eat from every month and rotate. Probably a bad analogy but that’s kinda what I’m trying to say
I agree, streaming was a lot better when the main players didn’t produce their own content. And it could get to be a bigger problem as the streaming players consolidate more which we’re already seeing with the HBO+Discovery merger for instance.
Not to mention how much media is consolidated under Disney currently.
This is assuming that you actually pay for all the services simultaneously. I still think streaming is a way better service since it’s easier to pick and choose what you want.
Plus there are no long term contracts and no equipment rentals to worry about. And canceling can be done by clicking some buttons on my phone in seconds whereas with cable you have to block off time on your calendar to sit on the phone for an hour to cancel.
It’s annoying to see these comparisons with cable cause it’s like people forgot how bad of a consumer experience it actually is.
This looks really nice actually. I haven’t used Thunderbird in a while so maybe I’ll give it another go soon.
And they don’t have ownership over a single community name as well. You can start a community with the same name on a different server
The pricing definitely seems steep to me for an ad free version of a phone app. I’m also holding our for boost although Sync seems like a pretty solid alternative for the moment. I haven’t been fully satisfied with many of the other apps except maybe Voyager
Even then sometimes manufacturers will still use Amazon for fulfillment and shipping. I agree though, the shopping experience is pretty awful and I try to avoid it
