If only he could do something to help stop it.
It is insane that he’s digging his heels in on this. It’s going to stain his legacy (which he cares a lot about) pretty severely.
LBJ had Vietnam, it’s looking like this is Joe’s hill to die on
Certainly the hill his re election ambitions died on, but im just happy they’re dead.
Unfortunately, due to how deep Israel and the US are in bed together, I can guarantee you, regardless of who takes the seat things will remain status quo. It’s not something you or I get to choose.
And therein lies the basis of voter apathy.
No I’m anything but apathetic, There are a lot of other things I do believe we get to choose on and that We can absolutely fight for I just don’t think this is one of them.
That being said, I really, really hope I’m wrong.
He’s only the PotUS, it’s not like he has any influence or power. All he can do is override congress to send Israel guns and cash.
Which means that he could also not override congress and not send Israel guns or cash.
Now they are comparing a basket of apples with a truckload of oranges. You can’t tell me the number of civilians killed are even in the same ballpark.
Edit: Okay. Now I’ve read the article.
The civilian death ratio of Palestinians to Israelis is, conservatively, 45 to 1 — and this gulf grows larger each day.
I think they’ve dropped one of two zeros in that number.
The article includes the initial Oct. 7 atrack, which is fair imo and checks somewhat out. Though they rounded down some.
Since October 7, when Hamas forces killed 1,139 Israelis and foreigners, including roughly 700 Israeli civilians, almost zero Israeli civilians have been killed by Palestinian forces. Since then, a few dozen Israeli hostages have been killed.
Israel has killed over 40,000 Palestinians since October. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor estimates that at least 92 percent of those killed are civilians, meaning that at least 38,000 of those whose deaths have been reported to officials are civilians.
The true death toll is likely far, far higher, experts have said.
If we believe these numbers
- 700 + ‘a few dozen’ Israeli civilians
- 38.000 Palestinian civilians
I come out at closer to 1:50.
But math never was my strength.Ah, they’re using the old numbers for Palestinian deaths, which have barelly been updated since Israel destroyed most Hospitals in Gaza as the deaths were counted based on the corpses arriving at the Hospitals and people dying there.
Using the number published a month or two ago in a scientific article in The Lancet medical journal, which estimated over 180,000 Palestinian civilian deaths in Gaza due to Israeli attacks since October, the ratio is about 1 to 250.
As a leftist, I find the usage of “Genocide Joe” completely warranted.
Also, that angle in the thumbnail may be the worst possible.
On “both sides”? What Israeli civilians are killed in Gaza?
EDIT: Nvm, it’s about the hostages. Yeah, then I guess it’s a fair assessment.
How many hostages were killed by Israeli forces?
Most likely a majority of them
I have seen a video where an Israeli opposes water transportation infrastructure for Palestinians, even though he is alone against like half a dozen Palestinians. They didn’t kill him
Very fine people on both sides…
The ratio is 250 to 1 if you use the estimated Palestinian deaths from the scientific article published in The Lancet medical journal a few months ago.
Remember that the 40,000 number (which is the one that seems to have been used to get this 45 to 1 ratio) was what was counted in Hospitals in Gaza when corpses arrived or injured died in the Hospital, and “curiously” Israel destroyed most Hospitals in Gaza and since then “curiously” that 40,000 number barelly moved even while we pretty much get daily news of Israeli attacks killing tens or even over a hundred civilians.
