  • How big of a problem is that, compared to the millions of people who struggle to make the time and vote?

My girlfriend works two jobs. Gets up at 8-9am, most days works til 3am. Has to take care of her grandmother with Alzheimer’s, do all her shopping/banking/cleaning/etc on the weekends. She is not an isolated case. Many people don’t have the time to do anything else.

Anything that increases voter turnout should be adopted. The US already has vote by mail. Expanding the program is a good thing.

  • It was growing too. It just wasn’t profitable.

These days we have much cheaper ways to handle uploading and downloading insane amounts of video content (if you’re interested, I recommend checking out some System Design resources on TikTok or YouTube), but it’s pretty much all CDN and slightly more efficient backend services). We also have better ways to monetize platforms. Like data. Buttt ByteDance is also trying to do things like set up physical goods stores/etc, and it’s 2024 where userbase and brand name is more important than actual revenue anyways.

  • Nicholas Plot, an American StarCraft professional commentator who has lived in Korea for 15 years, said, "One of the things that surprised me when I first came here was work ethics. They almost collapsed from overwork but didn’t say anything. In an apartment in suburban Seoul, 15 to 16 game players trained in an environment similar to a PC room, using bunk beds, he said. “When there is a small ecosystem where everyone pushes each other to get better and better, Koreans completely dominate (the environment). At the same time, I had no choice but to think about the psychological slump it created,” he said.

This is reasonably accurate. Korea is very heavy on the grind. If you ever want to learn work ethics and how to have fun with the short amount of free time you get, this is the place.
