How are these companies able to operate in broad daylight in the EU of all places? I mean the name itself is saying out loud what they do.

I just say “Hey sir, start timer 15 (or whatever) minutes”. Works every time. I sometimes even ask how many minutes left.
Meanwhile, the police have a maximum IQ limit and anyone above that is not qualified.
Good to know, thanks! We’re always conscious of the heat levels and make sure not to crank it up too high or keep it that way for prolonged periods.
We use Fika pans at home and I believe they are ceramic. Will that wear off too? We’ve been using them for almost a year now and they have been great. It’s a low bar though because prior to that we’ve always used cheap non-stick pans. lol
inaccuracies and hypocritical takes are being thrown around regarding FOSS.
Oh wow that grinds my gears too. Hopefully those takes are out of pure ignorance and lack of information rather than actually believing FOSS is not secure.
Aha DNS Blitz. Instead of an app, you install a VPN profile. The benefit is that it protects you wherever you go regardless of the connection you’re using (home wifi, mobile data, public wifi, etc.).
Oh cool we have a TLDR bot on lemmy too! Good bot.
They were/are. They’re just making it official now.
A dash of fried garlic or furikake on the rice would be amazing.
You don’t seem to be getting an actual answer to your question, so I’ll try. IMO it’s the idea of being the master of your own domain and being in control; basically being an admin. If you want to be on an instance designed to your own preferences, like which instances it federates with and what communities you want to host, then the ultimate way to do it is to create and host your own instance.
What are the effects for other parts of the world like Asia and North America? I read somewhere that northern US states will become the most tolerable in the US, and Florida (if it doesn’t drown first) and a lot of the south are gonna be uninhabitable.
The popular Mastodon instances seem to be more stable than the Lemmy ones though. I don’t think I’ve experienced any extended downtime on the Mastodon instances I’ve been on yet. Also, because of the race between the tons of lemmy apps being developed, they tend to have more bugs (on beta). I use Tusker beta for Mastodon and it’s been very stable compared to the Memmy and Mlem betas.
Yup, I can be late for hours to comment on a post and can still get replies. If you’re late by an hour on a popular sub on reddit, you might as well not comment at all.
I release independently and I earned a whopping $43 for 50k+ streams (so far). Sure, 50k isn’t much compared to mainstream artists, but $43 isn’t much either.
I discovered this a couple of days ago: https://github.com/CMahaff/lasim. It just transfers your subscriptions to your new account in another instance. I don’t really mind not being able to transfer comments for now, but this has been very very helpful when I moved my subscriptions from one of my lemmy.world accounts to another instance because of the recent downtimes.
I use Tusker and it’s been great so far. More features than the official app, and it’s pretty stable too.
I did. I added a note but didn’t want to edit what I originally said so readers have context on what I quoted wrong.
I was typing from memory. Now that you pasted the actual quote, I realize the word “adult” was there; so not intentional and I stand corrected. In any case, my point still stands that I think the conversation between the admins could’ve gone better. Maybe the lemmynsfw admin could’ve explained it another way; on the other hand, the blahaj admin seemed to just be looking for a reason to finally defederate and seemed like they already decided before the conversation even started.
Huh. I wonder what they mean by “bad user UX”. I was expecting concerns about encryption or privacy, not UX. I already use Signal, so it would be a positive for me if they federate.
