I really hate that that’s even a thing. Logically, my brain wants to do it in the order that it’s shown in. Doing it any other way just feels unnatural. Like building a roof before building the house
The next year I learned BODMAS instead, which was initially confusing but introduced the idea that the exact order can be a bit variable, as long as you do the multiplication/division bits first.
I vaguely remember BIDMAS, but my brain wasn’t braining that day, so I don’t really remember it
Edit: I also remember asking my workers about it when I got home (although I also remember getting it confused and asking them if they learnt “BIMBAS”, and one of them said they got BEDMAS, I think the other got PEDMAS
I had the order of operations with no problems, but somehow managed to calculate 18-12 = 4 which really messed me up.
I am good at maths in theory, but tend to muddle up calculations in my head. I really need to be able to pin the numbers down on paper, in my head it’s like they wriggle around on me.
30/42. better than my recent horrible showings
20/50, about average for me :/
Also to be fair! I did the math! I just did it in the wrong order and got 24
I had to remember the order of operations, managed the correct answer after a shameful number of minutes 😬 BEDMAS helps

Helps to isolate the problem by putting brackets round anything that you KNOW needs to be done separately.
Doesn’t help much if I don’t KNOW what needs to be done separately.
PEMDAS
parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction.
That’s how I remember it.
I learned BOMDAS
brackets, of, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction

See, I learned Bomdas first, then was informed it was wrong and to use PEMDAS. I have no idea which one is the correct one anymore.

Similar with spelling for me. Can’t do it out loud without at least air writing it with a finger, and paper is better. Odd mental blank spot.
