I just have to actually celebrate myself, my friend let slip at dinner that my ex has a girlfriend and has for a while and I’m not sad or hurt about it at all. Which is HUGE. I’m so fucking proud of the progress I’ve made emotionally.

Time to go to bed, and hopefully my headache will be gone in the morning.

I have run the bot through final instructions and insisted that all post titles are pre-approved, so hopefully there will not be a repeat of the 2nd Wednesday fiasco. It’s on probation until it shows it understands how the day names work properly. Fingers crossed for a third successful post.

Been so meh these last couple of weeks. The same again today after work. It’s like… I don’t know… I just want to do nothing.

But… pulled my finger out for self-care Thursdays which has been hit and miss, but a good hit today. Still loving on the Aesop scrub I mentioned I while back. I’ve cleansed, scrubbed and put a face mask on. (I fully look like such a weirdo, my face is kind of bank robber material right now… 🤣)

So while I’m sitting here basting my face, a curious q (as I do), has anyone read any books or have any book recommendations for people who a) suck at meditation b) really struggle with positive affirmations and the like… (like find it [the language] a bit ick?). You know, for an eternal pessimist with a broken anterior cingulate.

meditation is not for everyone , it doesn’t mean you suck at it

and I suggest you write your own affirmations eg “I am the type of person who …” 'I am the type of person who does not …"

      That’s what I do.

Thanks Seagoon. I guess before I decide something is really not for me, I try to dive a little into the why. I do have one sort of meditative app I listen to sometimes. I find myself so picky with sound and voices etc. and while I can sit quietly… I don’t know, sometimes I wonder if just sitting somewhere in nature and just observing is kind of meditative, too? (I’m still working on the affirmations thing, but I like the sound of what you wrote. Thanks so much.)

Meditation takes practice. It’s not just something you’re good or bad at, it’s a skill, and you need to work at it to improve - pretty much everyone will suck at it to start

I’m not much of a meditative person either, but being a busy mum and carer I’ve felt a need for time out. I’ve started attending a sound meditation at my local community centre, and while it’s taken a few goes to get the hang of it, I’ve just come from there all blissed out after tonight’s session. Now don’t get me wrong, the ummmms and the ommmms and all the talk of Venus and cancer goes a bit far for me but meditation is a personal thing.

I don’t know much about sam harris, but this is a no bullshit meditation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5oIEKjMdmA&ab_channel=EverythingisEverything I too dislike the woo angles of a lot of yoga, meditation and mindfulness stuff. Each to their own, but it breaks the sense of peace I get from guided meditation.

A friend taught me a simple breath exercise, which you can do anytime, be aware of how your lungs behave of course, but she said, 5 in 9 hold and 7 out. Which are arbitraty measures of time you count in your head. I try and count seconds, but it’s more important you do it and not feel like you’re struggling at any stage so go at your own pace obviously.

It’s been a really long time because I’ve just been too busy and stressed. But I’m getting the urge to bake.

I’m now taking suggestions. I’m thinking a bread of some kind and a shareable dessert bake for visiting a friends house for dinner on Sunday 🤔

Yeah, I definitely think I’ll have to make some out of pure necessity: I bought 5 last weekend because mr omokiri had his wisdom teeth out on Monday and mentioned that he might like to have some smoothies while on his liquid diet. He has had approximately nome of them so far.

Ah with smoothies as a liquid diet, add some corn flakes in it, it’s a bit more weighty and full feeling. What I do when making a smoothie: make a banana smoothie, add Kellogg’s cornflakes and blue berries and churn that up. Fulling, not thick depending on how much cereal you add, just a little will be enough and the blueberries are a good source of fibre, vitamin c and antioxidants. If blueberries is not a go because it’s not like then raspberry or blackberry is also good back up. Delicious. I need to get back into smoothies but haven’t made them because cold

Banana would be the easy one but I’ll throw in my personal favourite of apple and cinnamon.

Croissants maybe? And an apple & rhubarb crumble for dessert. Just the weather for it. Or an apple clafoutis … dead easy and delicious.

I have the urge to bake croissants so badly. BUT I got the Lune cookbook for Christmas and I’ve not had a chance to try their recipe yet. It’s a 3 day minimum bake, so I’m making myself hold out a few more months until the PhD is done and I don’t have responsibilities so that I can set aside an entire weekend to do them.

A clafoutis sounds like a delicious idea actually. I could make mini ones and take some in to my nan in respite care.

Clafoutis is one my go tos for an easy impressive dessert. Did up a pineapple one once that was amaaaazing. The basic batter works with any reasonably moist fruit. Except citrus unfortunately which is a bummer at this time of year. Recommend butterscotch sauce with apple though once cooked.

I’m too tired to journal properly tonight. It’s been a busy day but I managed to squeeze in a 6k walk and a quick trip to the op shop which landed me a gorgeous full length blue paisly skirt.

so busy today. late finish and couldnt really be bothered cooking, so broccoli, pesto and chilli soup with garlic-y croutons from the freezer it is (fresh croutons).

want to watch the cricket but will probably end up falling asleep on the couch, giving myself an old lady stiff neck/back for work tomorrow.

in good news, soup was delicious.

Feeling very bleh today. A bit headachy and unable to focus, so study did not get done. I made some changes to the bot so the days should be right, then tried to do a test post and it wouldn’t work. Just about had a nervous breakdown before I realised I was not using 24 hour time. I’m going to leave off looking at the pinning issue until my brain can function properly.

Sit. rep.: bleeding finally stopped for good once the anaesthetic wore off - it seemed to start bleeding again each time a bit of feeling came back.
Managed to eat some yoghurt etc and have put the makings of congee in the slow cooker.
Am wiped so have crawled in. Have a good evening everyone.

Someone’s telling me to get on “Threads”. Some new Instagram-compatible social media platform that looks like a Twitter feed. Not interested in having more social media accounts but interesting that Meta’s coming for Twitter.

Bought one of those super high density toothbrushes to try. I have to say, teeth feel cleaner than with regular toothbrush.
